My wife and I left and not due to politics at all. Love the State just do not like how crowded it is, the bad traffic, every store, restaurant, gas station with long waits, the high taxes and fees and running into very dirty and generally mentally disturbed "homeless" when in the bigger towns, including at many beaches. We could easily afford to "live" there, but it wasn't worth it. Where I live now is like where I grew up in the 60's in SoCal.

With the leaders of CA I have a feeling it's heading for a big fall and want to cash out before it happens. That and I'm just burned out on traffic and over population and want to start somewhere fresh. I've never lived in another state before. People either love or hate the desert and luckily I love it and it's close to Cali so I can visit here whenever I want. I'm going to AZ in a few weeks and planning on checking out Prescott. I hear it's very nice.
Just bear in mind, overpopulation and bad traffic and highCOL is only found in a very small % of CA. That’s why I don’t live in the greater LA area or Bay Area. Don’t be shocked when you find Phoenix to be crowded and has traffic issues.

But we are very happy in eastern CA. It’s more affordable than Prescott and more conservative.
I really wanted to avoid any unpleasantness or bashing......just was hoping to start a conversation among similarly minded folks.....

Housing in Prescott area that we have looked at is about 40-50% of where we are now. All the roads seem to be better maintained than CA, at least as far as I could see. Cleaner road sides for sure. I am in a conservative 'cowboy town' in eastern SD county, but if you live in a state, you must put up with it's laws, and CA has gone too far and is headed further down the hole, methinks.....

Does anyone think housing prices in CA will always stay high? I want to do the real estate deals at the best time. AZ prices are rising (slightly) as Californians move in. I would hate to end up selling low here and paying high there.....

We have a plan to leave within the next 2 to 5 years, provided the housing market stays strong. We are looking at Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho . The only thing that's keeping us here right now is a child in high school and a well-paying job.
The main reasons we see ourselves leaving are in no particular order: high taxes on everything, crazy politics, congested roadways, poor infrastructure, too much diversity, oppressive summer heat, and poor air quality.

Tulsi Gabbard was on Dave Rubin last night, and it was so refreshing to hear a Centrist Democrat acknowledge that the high taxes in California are not benefiting the people who actually pay taxes. We make fairly decent money as a married couple, but you wouldn't know it by the end of the month. When all of our taxes are tabulated at the end of the year we are almost paying as much taxes as a socialist country, yet we don't qualify for any programs that illegals and low-income get for free. Everything from WIC, to "Obama phones", to free school lunches, we make too much to qualify for.

And where do all those taxes go? Heavens if I know. The state is currently sitting on something like 20 billion dollars in Surplus money, yet we just passed another gas tax last year, ostensibly to pay for new infrastructure projects, yet the roads in my area are atrocious. Even one of our local leaders wrote an article in the Sacramento Bee last year about how awful the roads are and what it does to our vehicles. Moonbeam's train to nowhere debacle is a prime example of tax dollars not benefitting tax paying Californians.

The open borders policy that state Democrats seem to embrace is a slap in the face to all Americans and all naturalized citizens who went through the legal immigration process to be here, and this goes against the values that I believe in as an American citizen.

The radicalization of college campuses in this state is concerning to me as a father of a soon-to-be college student. The cancel culture, identity politics, and social Marxism at ultra liberal colleges like Berkeley is indicative of how far left politics have gotten here.
Diversity is a good thing but when rational discourse is shouted down as being racist, Nazi esque, or far right because my views don't line up with their views, then you know the diversity that the left crows about comes with more stipulations than you're willing to deal with.

The homeless situation in California is out of control. The Poo Maps, the needles, the typhus, the squatters, the homeless camps along roadways, it's all real people. And our elected leaders in the state seem to think that the only real option is to throw more tax dollars at the problem. It's like they haven't yet realized that when you hand out free services you disincentivize people from getting a job or going into housing. Why work when the government will take care of you in perpetuity? When I see homeless people holding iPhones that I can't afford to buy then you know California's politicians are only interested in getting reelected, not representing the best interests of its tax paying citizens.

Sacramento can be hot from mid April to mid October. We would like to move to a place that has a nicer three seasons. We like the snow and at least you can just put warmer clothes on if you want to go outside. Here you spend six months either in water or staying inside in the A/C. We'd like to be outside more.

Anyways, that's my reasons.

SD is one of very few major cities nationwide with a Republican mayor although I wouldn't call Kevin Falconer a conservative. Even if you were to move to Texas, every major city their is run by a Democrat.
Yes we moved to the most conservative area around SD, but the State still decides the politics on the important stuff

But the consequence of reclassification is that it seems that there are alot more meth heads and vagrants running around East County committing petty theft without any fear of going to jail as is the case in other parts of the state. This might be a good reason to leave as well if it begins to affect your property directly.
They are all over and the Govt will do nothing about them....

But even Dennis Prager of the conservative think tank Prager U has been quoted as saying that taxes would have to be raised pretty significantly more for him to consider leaving CA.

Liked all your points...We chose Prescott because a) it is a 6 hr drive back to SD to visit family/friends, and b) they have great 4 season weather, not too hot in the summer, dry climate, and a little snow in the winter...
