Actually, you are right, she’s Latina.

I know plenty of kids older than mine that slacked or got close to a 3.0 in HS, got A's and B's in CC's and went on to Cal, UCLA, etc. This is as recent as 2-3 years ago.

Based on my experience with recent grads in the last 3 years or so, the private colleges offer scholarships that bring the cost down almost to the UC tuition, think $35-40k/year total cost compared to $30k total cost at UC. I've heard it's still difficult to graduate at UC in 4 years, so assume 5 years ($150k) compared to $160k for private and it's on par for total cost.

Thanks for the DVM, I googled it and found it. Thought we were talking about undergrad as any doctorate program in medicine is and always has been difficult to get into.

Based on our experience with our oldest and all the other kids, our youngest is going to CC. Glad we did not pressure him and just let him get by with his 3.2 since HS doesn't seem to matter much unless you got published as a high schooler or had some other talent, like crew, soccer or some other make believe cheat.
It’s not hard to graduate from a UC in 4 years, most of my nephews, nieces and one of my kids did. They all have very high GPA too.

she further said to avoid CC that have lots of Asians if you want to have the distinction of top of your class

her children finished their undergrads at UCLA and UCSD

and it is very hard to get into DVM at the UCs

so CC may still be like HS but to graduate at the top, you have a lot of competition now who probably wanted to save on tuition and not because they couldnt go directly to a UC
Our God daughter graduated from Vet school at Davis and if I remember right she had to apply 3 or 4 times before she finally got accepted. She is now a practicing Vet in N. CA and a very successful one. Yes, it is tough and it is an outstanding vet school.

As a graduate from one of the top 3 schools on this list, I feel so lucky to have born and raised in Cali.

CA is the only state that can rival the traditional IVY League states in the northeast.

Education wise, you are right, otherwise it is a matter of opinion.

Curious about new US News 2020 College ranks as a UC Riverside Alumnus...Highlanders are hanging tough!

Posted ALL 9 UC locations above (NATIONAL RANK, PUBLIC RANK). "New kid on the block" UC Merced went up 29 spots last year (5th biggest jump in nation-2019 US News), and another 32 spots this year (biggest in nation!). Moving upward and onward fast!

UCLA still on top for second year in a row...slightly above Berkeley.

ALL 9 UC locations now just about in Top 100 Nationally!

ALL 9 UC locations in Top 50 for Public Colleges!

University of California System looking great...getting tougher to get in each and every year!!

It's only great if you have someone like Lori Loughlin or Felicity Huffman to scam the college admission process and let you in

That's great. I think chemical engineering actually has the highest average salary of all majors. Not super popular for people to go into and high demand from petrochem companies.
