We already pay among the highest rates in the nation for electricity. I've lived in other western states that also had powerlines running throughgh vast forests and mountains that were dry in the summer. Yet we didn't pay anywhere near these rates. We didn't have an issue with ummaintaned power transmission lines. In fact, when I was younger and building flight time, for a year my job was to fly up and down the power lines all over that state doing visual inspections on remote lines. If I called something in it was fixed. Why is PGE so inept, criminally so imo? What's the _____ problem out here?!

This is 100% unacceptable and inexcusable!

Wouldn’t it save lives and be cheaper for PG&E to just put in undergrohnd cables than all these lawsuits?

So let me get this straight: PG&E is cutting off power because it MIGHT get very windy and combined with the dry conditions, the power lines MIGHT cause fires -- is that right?

And so from now on, whenever PG&E gets "scared", Californians will probably face more outages, and they should simply consider this to be the "new normal" and get used to it?

If that is correct, all I can say is just . . . Wow. Just wow.

(And this gives me one MORE reason why I am glad I no longer live in California!)

I spoke with a friend in CA today who lives in Grass Valley/Nevada City area (northeast of Sacramento in Sierra foothills) and their electricity has been off all day and the frustrating thing is no one will tell them how long it’s going to be off!!
The schools are closed, all businesses closed, hospital running on backup generators.....

**Hmmm—in case some postings are confusing to the CA people here — a thread from the Retirement forum just got moved and merged to this CA forum/thread

That is correct, and PG&E saves $12 billion each time it cuts power off.

Well at least that will make the people in Marin County happy, right?

The power has been cut to 800,000 customers. It began a little after midnight and could last for days as PG&E drives around inspecting lines. I hope all those who rely on electricity for their durable medical equipment have a generator. This is probably the new normal here.
