Increasingly... high tax states are over taxing with reduced representation. It's unsustainable for long time residents. Balanced budgets and term limits would work miracles.

An/your Individual effective tax rate is important to know.

I think you've got your property tax rates mixed up.

Do you mean renters whose rent has gone up 50% in 4 or 5 years, while their salaries have gone up maybe 10%? Yeah they have a chip on their shoulder and if landlords hadn't raised rents so much on existing tenants we wouldn't be talking about this, would we?

Well, you just made a case for living in California, property tax is 1% of the purchase price of your home. I paid $300,000 for a home in Sacramento County five years ago, the assessed value was increased by some permitted improvements as a result our property tax is $4,000 a year. How many people in other states pay $333.00 a month

I know people in Missouri who’s property taxes are $400 a year. Even in the metros like Kansas City the property taxes aren’t bad at all. Sales tax can be a bit steep. Gas is cheap. Real estate is about half or better than what you’d pay out west.
Roads paved, schools funded. I’ve lived in 7 states and Missouri was far from being the worst.
California has some good qualities, just not enough to justify the expense unless you’re emotionally attached to it.

Yes - and sometimes they have pretty large acreage and multiple structures, guesthouses, etc with small property tax like that. Roads are great. Take the same acreage/house to rural New England and one'd be paying 7K a year probably, driving on unpaved roads getting stuck in deep mud and over potholes on paved ones.

Term limits would work miracles?

California has term limits on its governor, and it has the most restrictive legislative term limits in the nation (fewest total years served - 12 - allowed, with no exceptions for non-consecutive service). Half of all states term-limit their governors, and fourteen other states have term limits on legislators. Where are these supposed miracles? They don't exist. Term limits are just another fantasy cure-all that doesn't perform the miracles its promoters claim.

As for taxes, California is a net-payer in that it sends more money (far more money) to the federal government in the form of taxes than it receives in federal expenditures. So where does that excess money go? To the feeble states that can't fend for themselves and need the largesse from the successful states to keep from going belly-up.

States like Tennessee.

Except SCOTUS. Term limits for SCOTUS are critically important for the nation’s future.

Other than that, your comments are spot on. Especially pointing at Tennessee as an example.
