It's one of many reasons why people compare California to Japan.

I think we’ve had so many bash California posts that people can be sensitive or suspicious here. I know everyone can post anywhere.

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that that poster is a woman .

You probably don't know about gated cities in California.
For example, Coto de Caza.

Any criminal can take a bus to Irvine and commit a robbery.
If she tries to rob somebody in Coto de Caza, it won't be that easy. How will she cross the gates?

Coto de Caza is not a city. It's merely a gated community. I believe these exist in most states.

Well, it's bigger than Rancho Santa Margarita nearby.

They can name it "community" or "sanctuary for hunting", but the author of the topic is probably looking for a place like that to feel safe.

I live in Rancho Santa Margarita about a mile from the north gate of Coto de Caza, so I'm very familiar with the area. The physical "footprint" of CdC is larger than RSM, but RSM has three times as many people and actually has businesses, because it's a city. CdC completely lacks amenities such as shopping, restaurants, schools, post office, etc. (There is one tiny "General Store"). Residents have to exit the gates and drive out for every little thing. In this sense it is no different from the MANY gated communities in California and other states, it's just bigger than most. If the OP wants a gated community, they are available virtually everywhere.

Coto de Caza (Area equals 7.974 mi²: Pop of 14,866) is smaller than Rancho Santa Margarita (Area equals 12.94 mi²: Pop of 48,793) in both area and population.

Ha, I didn't even look up up the size of CdC, just took his word for it (seemed reasonable given the wilderness/mountain area surrounding Coto), but I guess it's not the case.

Have you been there?

My friend from Rancho Santa Margarita pointed there and told me that it was the place where the wealthy lived guarded from the ordinary people.
