Since the opening of the US-101 Bypass, Willits doesn't get as much through traffic as in the past. While on business travel to and from Humboldt County several years ago, I would have dinner in Willits at the Lumberjack Restaurant. The downtown seems quaint. My first time going through Willits was about 12 years en route to Ft. Bragg. Other than those occasions, I haven't spent much time there.

During the 60's and 70's I used to go through Willits quite a bit as I worked at a great summer camp in Jackson State Forest located midway between Willits and Ft Bragg.
It was a sleepy sort of town back then with a feel of old lumber culture; new hippies were just breaking in back then.
Hadn't been back until about 10 yrs ago when I revisited the camp and the area doesn't have seemed to changed that much except for lots more young people there.
I loved the area back in the day but sorry can't really tell what it would be like living there now.

built a cabin there with my dad in the 80's, top of Ridge road in Brooktrails, have no idea why he picked willits, really nothing to do but work on the cabin, take hikes and smell the trees. But it was, for the most part peaceful.
