Maybe someone has done this and can help me out. I have 3 vehicles. Car A has 60`s plates, car B Breast cancer, and car D (the new one) standard plates. I`m keeping all 3 for the moment. I want to reassign the breast cancer plate from car B to C, the 60`s plate from A to B, and revert car A to standard plates again. Got all of that, lol. I know there is a form to reassign plates for a fee, but since I`m keeping all 3, do I have to re register them again and get them smogged again too? All 3 are paid for, registrations up to date, and have current smog. Thanks

If you are dealing solely with car registration in California (and not drivers' licenses), then the only and best option with people that will quickly, professionally, and most importantly correctly handle your registration swaps is AAA. Break down and buy a one year membership simply for that, but the year of free towing can be a God-send also.

If you join and use AAA and simply renew your licenses and smog checks via mail, you will never have to set foot in a quagmire, I mean DMV, office ever again :-)

You still have to go to the DMV to renew drivers license if over 70

I second the Auto Club (AAA) recommendation. We have bought, sold, transferred many cars over the years and AAA is always quick, easy and pleasant. No comparison to the DMV. They have a number of other services which you may or may not find useful as well. For instance, their notary service is much cheaper than most alternatives.

Fine, I should have said, "Rarely" instead of "(n)ever again." People will also have to go in every few years for a fresh DL photo.
