No, you don't understand what happened. Businesses are in trouble because we were forcefully shut down or our customers were shut down. Employees actually being absent from work because of one particular virus? Didn't make a difference at all.

My neighborhood is littered with businesses that were shuttered with our approach to covid. These places aren't coming back. The place will be sold to the highest bidder. It's unreal how we handled this. SDSU is STILL pretending it's 2020. All that survived were big box stores.

My favorite was how liquor stores, marijuana dispensaries, and fast food joints were all essential and could remain open, yet gyms (and even the beach) weren’t. On that note, how come not one health official (at least those from our government and media) never stressed the importance of being healthy to fight it? Nope, all the answers are in this shot. And continued shots every 6 months. Hmmm?

We closed the oceans and forests. The places most possible to avoid other humans. In the meantime our fearless leader didn't wear a mask, was eating at a fine restaurant with the leaders of the CDC AND hanging out at NFL games while we were forced to shuffle along six feet apart in Costco and Walmart wearing a muzzle. They also had their kids in private schools that didn't force mask wearing. It's pretty easy to do the math.

Yet, people, some people, are still buying the news that should be put out by the Onion.

Given that one cannot get COVID from a vaccine, that would be unlikely.

They didn't just survive, they thrived. What a side effect of the policies from the party that considers themselves anti large corporations.

Because it's not PC to tell someone they live an unhealthy lifestyle.

Retirements and resignations due to vaccine mandates dragging down the economy now is implausible. Only a small percentage of workers went out like that, many of the retirements were going to happen anyway, and employers probably wanted to be rid of those non-compliant and often aging (read higher-salaried and less-productive) employees.

The virus itself is the real problem.

Yep, and the results are we have to wait months to see anyone in healthcare. Police departments were decimated. I don't blame them. Between the extremism over protocol and demands about vax we will not recover from this for some time. California's cure? Raise the min wage for fast food workers trying to lure people back to work. If you can't get people to work fast food how are you going to get them to run an ambulance for a few bucks more. Or a lifeguard? Self inflicted fate.

The brain drain is real in all sectors. We'll be digging our way out for years.

As for the low skill stuff, getting people to just show up for an interview is now a challenge. A friend who's a contractor told me if he gets a dozen applicants, three might actually follow through and come.
