Same boomers in this thread have no scientific credentials, but argue as such.
California leadership is literally trying to destroy their economy to help Biden. That's all this is. Pretty sick. Meanwhile, other states are opening and are getting back to normal, yes, they are.

How a so-called "Doctor" can believe these types of deep state conspiracy theories is beyond me. Then again, the likes of Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz and Dr. Drew (none of whom have any qualifications with infectious diseases) interject their big mouths like they're the experts here.

If this isn't your field of expertise, don't open your mouth to proclaim otherwise, plain and simple.

Ok but there are other states that are more open with less restrictions and have a similar positive test rate.

CA has one of the lowest per capita death rates for COVID in the US and I wouldn't exactly say we're doing enough to control the spread.

Looks like we rank 26th in deaths per million. Is that really "one of the lowest" when we are right in the middle and have some of the, if not the, tightest restrictions?

Not so sure about that. I have friends in Texas who have told me the local restrictions in the major cities (Dallas, Houston, Austin) are every bit as restrictive as we have in CA. It may be deferred to the local municipalities, but don't kid yourself that CA is an outlier here.

Also keep in mind its not just about aggregate numbers but about trajectories. For example, CA's death rate was well above TX's for quite some time. Same goes with FL's and GA's. We got hit earlier in a sustained way and all of these states are now doing much worse than CA.

No we didn't. We thought we "crushed" the virus early on but then things began to unravel later in May along with many other states. The Northeast and Louisiana got hit earlier than everyone else, not us.

Look at states with the lower death rates than CA, they are more open. Oregon has indoor dining, WAY lower death rate than CA. Missouri has a lower death rate as well, willing to bet their are not nearly as strict as we are here. AS of 9/14 only 4 states didn't allow indoor dining statewide, CA is one of them. More restrictions doesn't necessarily lead to a lower death rate it appears.

Except that the IFR of the new wave of infections is 1/6th to 1/10th what it was of the first wave. So everyone who got hit hard early is going to end up with a higher death per capita, no matter what they do.

So, you're saying that close proximity indoors doesn't increase the spread? And you're qualified to make this statement because you're an epidemiologist?

And you don't remember the dates that they tried to open indoor businesses here in CA and how cases spiked?
