I was in the restaurant/bar part of La Jolla a couple weeks ago and didn't need a mask at all. Still a lot more virtue signaling mask wearing going on in SF, though a little better east of the Caldecott. San Jose/Santana Row is mandating outdoor masks because Sara Cody, Santa Clara health director, is terrified of her losing her significance in this world when the pandemic is over.

I must say, we were up in the Bay Area last weekend and walked at Tilden and 90% actually were not wearing masks. Parks/trails tend to have a lot less people wearing them, as they should. I was more referring to city sidewalks. Walking around Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 Area and Downtown Walnut Creek (which has a busy downtown), just surprised more weren't without them given the recent "guidance". Maybe it's peer pressure, I don't know but I'm done with them outside anywhere now. I still can't believe there are people walking around with no one in sight with them on.

I have been to a couple of packed bars recently, one in Danville and the other in Redwood City. No masks and pretty much like normal. So not everyone is a loon here.

I was in San Diego over Labor Day, definitely felt like another world at the time compared to the Bay Area. It was so refreshing. People up here are going to hold onto those things for as long as possible.

But she doesn't know how to forecast. Talking about "Impeding doom" and saying "I feel scared" before strong dips in case counts shows how she's in over her head.

The head of the CDC shouldn't really speak like that. But yet it still works on people.

Maybe they hadn't gotten the vaccine yet?

I agree. Out of habit I was doing it for a bit, then I said, "wait, why am I still doing this?" So others who haven't been vaccinated feel safe, or so that others who don't understand the science can feel safe? No way. I've been vaccinated, I'm done in all areas where it's not required. I actually saw a woman wearing a mask in her car yesterday driving down my street. It's not like she was leaving the store and just hadn't taken it off. She was driving down my residential street! I can't believe there are people still doing this. It never made sense, but it looks particularly ridiculous now.

Went to a concert in Tempe, AZ last weekend and although masks were 'required' when not eating or drinking, everyone was eating or drinking the whole time so that went out the window.

Based on the percentages who are fully vaccinated in the area I think I should have seen more people without them. At least 80-90% of people still had them on walking around.

Our HOA pool just opened up over the weekend. Saw two women treading water in the deep end with the mask on, then put it in the gutter when they swam laps and then put it back on to hang out on the edge and chat again. It was just them in the deep end. One of them lives in our community and the other is a guest. So they probably thought they were "protecting" each other with the masks. I am willing to bet both are either fully or partially vaccinated.

Her latest was really laughable. She said she's not sending her kid to camp because cases are the same as where they were last year. Of course, ignoring fact that positive test rates are 3% now vs. over 20% then. Also, her kid is 16 and could be vaccinated, but pretty clear logical thought is a struggle for her.
