I prefer the beaches in Santa Cruz, Pacifica, Huntington, etc.... than the cities.

SF is a very important and beautiful city. But should not be tied with LA.

1) LA
2) SF
3) SD
4) SJ

I think SF is just as important if you factor in it's history too. I know LA is bigger now but SF was bigger than all of SoCal combined for a long time

That was over 100 years ago. LA has pretty much dominated since prohibition.

It's a toss up between SD and SJ, depending on whom you ask or what field people are in.

Note: SJ has several sport teams, high tech capital and a good tv series

San Jose is the clear number 4 - not any of those listed.

I would have the order - LA, SF, SD, SJ and then SAC, then OAK - Riverside and Fresno not even close.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area but have lived in San Diego area for 20 years. I also lived in Fresno for about 4 months.
