Are there any places in the LA metropolitan area that are very green?
Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Calabassas, Moorpark are in the Ventura County part of the LA Metropolitan Area. They are green and hilly and have good schools.

Ventura county is only green for a few months out of the year, depending on when the rains start and end. I still think it's a good fit for the OP. The parks, sports fields, lawns, and such, are green and grassy. If you need to hike through green hills, just do so during the 3-4 months during the rainy season.

Santa Barbara really seems right up their alley. It's a very cosmopolitan city for its small size. The only criteria it doesn't meet is that it's probably 1:15 to the outskirts of LA proper, and that's with light traffic. It is greener than points south because it gets more rain.

Again, since you're used to warm weather (I assume) in the south, I would caution you about going north of Point Conception (Lompoc) as it gets quite a bit chillier and foggier up there. Not that there aren't warm/hot sunny days, but they are far fewer than the cool cloudy summer and rainy winter days. Check those areas out in June and January.

I live here and these areas are not very left-leaning or diverse, and everybody I know owns guns.

RSF is a republican stronghold and 94% white.

I agree Santa Barbara would be an option, but it sounds to me like the OP is describing the bay area.

I know he said liberal, but I don’t remember that he doesn’t want to be around white people. Isn’t Santa Barbara overrun with homeless? I thought I read that, but I’m not sure.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

SB is too disconnected from a major city for me. I’ll check out the other SoCal places mentioned and look further into the BA. I’ll probably post for more specific neighborhoods over there.

I didn’t say that. I did say being around diversity. Makes things interesting and also I love trying different cuisines. I bore easily.

Nice. Btw, do you think a lot of people in the BA own guns? The one poster from the Carlsbad area said everyone he/she knows owns one.

Carlsbad is a nice area of northern coastal San Diego County. OC is county of hard working people, but there is a lot (not all) of facade. People driving cars and renting places they cannot necessarily afford in order to project an image. Both it and OC are going to be too conservative for your taste, mostly. You should consider staying where you are and making that place/city/state a better place instead of adding to the population of California Dreamers.

A lot of people there own guns . Why should that bother you? They don’t parade them around. cc is hard as hell to get. My two friends who live miles away from each other have about 200 guns between them.
