No State (nor country) has ever taxed itself into prosperity...

We have to supplement this with charitable donations to pay for extra-curricular programs.

I won't argue that there isn't government mismanagement at the state level. There's a ton of government bureaucracy, outstanding pension payments and other liabilities which are contributing to this. But, that doesn't change the fact that schools need more money, especially with all the additional COVID requirements.
The school systems need to be privatized; you get what you pay for. Those who can't afford it can be subsidized with vouchers, but those vouchers must offer true school choice -- not beholden to the NEA and its collectivist/socialist agenda.

Because the Covid lockdown shut everything down before I could begin my new home search in the southeast.

Believe me, if everything was open I would have gone this past summer to make that search with a hope of moving either this fall or next spring at the latest. I am still furious I can't test out the Florida summer heat in the morning or evening so I could have written it off my list or accepted it as the case may be. Now I will have to guess.

I finally retire and C19 stops me dead in my tracks, stranded in California for another stinking year.

Don't blame me. I can't get out of the People's Democratic Republic of California fast enough.

Another way to look at this is if Prop 13 never was enacted, housing prices would likely be lower than they are today. So the out of pocket expenditures may not have been higher, even with a higher amount of taxes.

Isn't this sort of like the charter school initiative? You essentially fund some school districts while taking away from others. This only exasperates the issue of equal access to quality eduction.

Nice slogan but reality is California ranks in the bottom for education. Test scores are absolutely abysmal and the teachers are overpaid for what they produce. Time to privatize education, perhaps these Marxist stooges the public schools produce will begin to vanish into irrelevance.

It is a great idea. I suspect many of these millionaires who's net worth is over 50 million will make CA their second home.
Some former and current pro athletes have done this for a long time.

Privatizing schools will increase the disparity between the educational levels of children of the wealthy and children from poverty stricken families.

Nope, look in popular States where no Prop 13 exists. prices are still high. Trying buying in NY city for example.
