Southwest Airlines recently announced that will be flying into Fresno-Yosemite International Airport in the spring of 2021. The airline will also start serving Santa Barbara. This is great news for the central San Joaquin Valley. Southwest dropped Fresno for consideration when it acquired Morris Air in the 1990s. Since that time, the Fresno Airport expanded its terminal and added jet bridges. It’s also attracted international flights to Mexico and more domestic mainline flights. Quite a coup for the Fresno area.

New parking lot and new terminal are getting built, too. I believe.

Freeway was just expanded towards kings canyon which makes it safer and a little faster. Expect big 41 upgrades in the near future.

Also, The Cheeto leaving the white house is great news for hsr backers. Now it can get the funding it deserves.

Southwest has unveiled its initial schedules between Fresno and two cities. The airline will begin service on April 25, 2021 and fly nonstop to Denver and Las Vegas with connections to more than 50 other cities. Initial daily service will consist of one flight each way between Fresno and Denver and three flights each way between Fresno and Las Vegas. One-way fares start as low as $69 to Denver and $39 to Las Vegas.

I suspect this is a way for Southwest to punish their flight crews who have fallen out of favor.
No mess with firing anyone. Just put them on the Fresno route.

I don’t think it’s a passive aggressive move on Southwest’s part. From what I read in the Fresno Bee, adding service to Fresno and to other markets allows Southwest to utilize idle aircraft and avoid furloughs.

Construction of the 1000 new parking spaces has started already. New terminal is the next phase.

Very good chance of seeing hawaii as a destination.
Hopefully, a big east coast city gets announced soon. I want to see metro nyc or boston added. Bay and socal are guarantees.

Airport improvements alone will vault fresno past other valley towns(stockton, Bakersfield). Which is surely going to **** off this forum's biggest sacite

And it's a lot cheaper than a bullet train.

Amtrak runs through Fresno, and you can get there from anywhere in the Continental US.
