Hey CA CD..

You may remember this from last election when rent controls were put on the State election and the electorate wisely voted them down....the our illustrious Governor decided he didn't care and implemented them anyway, but just for the big holders. Well, the next round is here, looking to seek rent controls for all individuals with 2 homes set locally.

While it seems possible the State may override the voters yet again, I would urge you to vote no on this issue. The new proposal moves beyond just price increase capping and literally calls out criteria of when a homeowner that rents their property would be ALLOWED to set their own rent. The ability to price your own property will be reduced to an exception. 1954.53 will mandate that locality be allowed to set the rental rate of your property.

The proposal takes laws used to set rental rates established for housing assistance and apply it to all properties.

Passing of this law would eliminate incentive for existing landlords to maintain or improve their property, as only new properties would be exempt from the rule. Effectively it will handicap older homes that are ironically the most affordable in most instances in lieu of new construction which is almost always exorbitantly priced.

This is a clear overreach of the government and would likely be negative in its impact on home availability. Please consider voting no on this Proposition.

Good grief. The lack of commonsense of our state government knows no bounds.

They've chosen to ignore all the lessons learned from hard experience.

By the 1970s, even MAD magazine began spoofing the stupidity of rent control.
