Senate Bill 815 reforms the California Medical Board and does other things. The news made a big thing of it when it was passed. Yet it has not been signed by the governor, correct?

It passed the Assembly Sept 14. It was presented to Newsom on Sept. 21, and hasn't been signed into law yet.

The bill revises the Medical Practices Act and seeks to introduce reforms to the MBC (Medical Board of California).

“This legislation is all about protecting patients, lifting up consumers and making sure that the State’s watchdog actually has teeth,” said Roth. “SB 815 improves physician oversight, which is not only important for patients, but also critical for the overwhelming majority of dedicated physicians who are upstanding and play by the rules.”¹

The important thing is that it has not been signed. I do not know how normal it is for the governor to not sign something for more than a couple of weeks unless there is something in the bill to cause hesitation.

CA4Now have you seen a synopsis that is more than the PR blurb? If so, please let us know.

I'm interested because Sacramento is doing so many bad things these days, and should I worry that this is one of them?

This says that normally, the governor has around 12 days to sign it. So if he received it 9/21, he's still got a few days.

My understanding is that this is a good one and that both parties think so. The newspaper said it provides a way for citizens to comment on doctors that have been reported as providing bad care. I think it passed with a vote of 35-1. If my understanding of the bill is accurate then it will be bad only if Newsome does not sign it.

That was the day I posted the initial post. At the time I posted, the page I linked to did not indicate it was signed. I admit I did not look at that page again, until now.

If you looked at the bill tracking link on Sept. 30, it indicated then that the most recent status of the bill at that time was that it passed the Assembly and--scroll down--the date it landed on the governor's desk. It did not indicate until yesterday, Oct. 2, that it had been signed on Sept. 30.
