It rained on Christmas here a couple years ago. We called it our white Christmas.

Ironically, we’ve had a couple of white christmases here in the last decade. Go figure, it snows maybe once or twice per winter here.

Once was on a vacation when it snowed. Was on the freeway...that’s terrifying stuff.

Weather. When I moved back to CA after being in WA for nearly 20 years all told, I felt 10 years younger - having a lot of arthritis by then, even though I was only in my late 30's.

And, I'm a homebody. Being a snowbird sounds like a pain for someone like me - having to find someone to take care of plants and fish and trusting them not to snoop through all of my stuff or have parties in my house or something.

I've done the gorgeous rural mountain thing and really enjoyed it. But, now that I'm retired, I'd rather put up with my less than perfect apartment building, and have the great weather and tons of amenities. I like convenience and comfort now.

There is a saying in WA "We have 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad sledding."

It's because weather means access to activities that would otherwise be shut out by true seasons -- especially winter. I enjoy the weather for the sake of the weather. Plus, the moderate climate means almost year-round availability of lifestyle. Even basic things like doing a project around the house. In places with long winters or oppressively humid summers, people are holed up forever in their basements or shops because there's nothing else to do. It's either too cold or hot outside to do anything else. It's the difference between a twelve month option for your hobbies and a three month one.

[quote=EckyX;59054675]I'm certain I'm not speaking for all Vermonters.
Why Vermont might want Californians:
-Vermont has a declining population, we could especially use more young workers. Lowest unemployment rates in the nation?
-Please bring your money here. I'm not afraid of being priced out; there's plenty of land to go around.

I'd love to hear Vermont weigh in.
But I'd imagine most Vermonters wouldn't be too keen on Californians as neighbors who have gender reveal parties during a pandemic; while lighting fireworks during fire season.

You're generalizing a state of 40 million people on what that couple did? Typical.

I am surprised how Vermont is becoming so popular with progressive leaning politics despite been so inland and mostly rural? It already seems pretty Californicated and maybe even more so than MA, RI, CT and Maine. I know Bernie Sanders is from Vermont but I be curious whether he would be a conservative Democrat or a progressive one.
