And in case you didn't notice - we did see unrest in CA this summer. So maybe it starts to fit the criteria.
Um no. A couple thousand (at most) protestors - out of a 40 million population - railing against racial bias along with the rest of the nation doesn’t constitute a volatile culture in early stages of upheaval. Not even close.

And neither Mexico nor Brazil compare in the slightest to the world’s leader in tech development embraced by the world’s number #1 advanced society / technocracy / economy.

Sunday May 31, 2020 is when it hit home for me...

Bay Area under siege... a night all hell broke out and law enforcement was no where to be found.

I got the alarm call from the hospital clinic... arrive to find "Bees Swarming the Hive"...

Could not count the number of looters as there were too many... repeated calls to 911 and finally I was told there will be no response... I said what am I suppose to do and was told to leave if it was safe to do so.

I killed power to all the lighting circuits and used lobby furniture to barricade windows and doors... most had the glass busted out.

To this day, law enforcement has yet to take a report... refused to do so as I called everyday for a week. One of the intruders lost a Apple 6S phone... what great evidence... still have it bagged as no interest to follow through.

Businesses up and down the area business corridors still boarded up from this night... some never to reopen?

Beauty Supplies, Pharmacies, Dental Offices, Gas Stations, Repair Shops, Car Dealers, Shopping Malls all hit through out the Bay Area...

5 million in value from one auto dealer stolen... Prescriptions for those with life or death needs not available... medical records ransacked... Walmart burned.

I kept hearing pop, pop, and pop pop... didn't know at the time it was gunfire... looters taking over a supermarket with the manager holed up all night in the fortified office.

Home Depot looted all night... the news filmed it for hours.

This was just one night... plenty of repeated scenarios in Oakland... windows smashed, looting, shooting and it continues.

Just this week hate crimes against churches continue... on private church property in Marin statue of Saint Serra joyfully destroyed... no doubt about it... hate crime filmed in color.

SF Landmarks and Park property continue to be destroyed... Italian neighbors harassed for celebrating Columbus Day at their bakery.

Now half the schools in SF have names found offensive... Lincoln, Feinstein, etc...

Not withstanding everything said... why do those that destroy get a pass? Why are those that pollute and dump trash get a pass... why does free speech no longer exist?

I adopted a section of city creek and spend time each week picking up trash dumped in the creek... years of doing this wears on an person... that so many go out of their way to make the environment a garbage dump?

Every morning at day break I picked up buckets of trash dumped at the Hospital parking lot... we have lots of concrete trash urns but simply walking a few steps to place trash in the urn is too much to ask...

My perfect place would start with a place where the people clean up after themselves and respect others...

You talk about the "top 10%" in those places with a bit of disdain, as if it were immoral somehow?

Yet, it confounds me that people like you support the Republican party, Trump and socio-economic policies that favor the top 10% over everyone else --- in the US.

The Republican Party calls any move within the U.S. to help the 90% "socialism".

California, despite all of its egalitarian legislation, is still part of the United States and still subject to the policies of the United States. So, the Brazilification of the United States will continue on as long as Republicans keep getting elected and keep pandering to their billionaire and millionaire base. And, sadly, the Brazilification of California will continue on as well, and spread to many other places. Get ready for the Rio-style favelas to start popping up all over the place...Memphis, Indianapolis, Denver, Nashville, Sioux City, Louisville, Cleveland, Wichita, Oklahoma City and all of those other precious "heartland" places so near and dear to Red Staters.

You guys want to put Amy Coney Barret in as a SCOTUS judge, and she fits the mold to a tee. She sees herself as a "constitutional originalist", which means she wants a repeal of everything going back to the post-Colonial days. Which means her cadre of well-heeled friends and acquaintances will benefit and prosper, while the rest of us share in the scraps.

Constitutional originalism means, very nakedly, that only land-owning prosperous white males will have a say in anything, while the rest of us can drop dead.

Think about that!

I would never presume to know what someone will do before they do it...

Some Justices actions have surprised everyone...

I'm not political but living in Oakland California I can't remember back to any Republican in a position of power here and yet with all the programs, higher taxes... 50% on average higher than nearby jurisdictions and we still have shootings, break-ins, looting, property destruction, etc...

I didn't see it but the talk today at work was Senator Feinstein has got to go... I asked what prompted this and was told just look at her interaction with Graham.

You're assuming a hell of a lot about who I support and what policies I favor. Where did I indicate any support for the Republican Party or Amy Coney Barrett?

Graham is the one who ought to go.

Not a big fan of Feinstein. Graham is a g--damned snake, and not to be trusted (my apologies to serpents, everywhere!)

Feinstein, too often, likes to play the "good cop, bad cop" role. She's one of those that will never be effected by the draconian right-wing policies she pretends to defend the rest of us against. Her questioning of Amy Coney Barret was softball and mere lip service to progressivism, without any real substance.

Never been fond of her, as a Democrat, myself. I wish Nancy Pelosi was our US Senator.

His opposition this year is giving him the run of his life, for a change! Would love to see him go, too!

That's the point... a little civility in difficult circumstances is seen a weakness instead of Statesmanship...
