Yep... some beautiful country where the mountains meet the sea in Western WA...

Amazing contrast as someone born and raised in CA... also, plenty of clean water.. almost to a problem.

Cost of living isn't so much a draw unless comparing water front to water front.

The Olympic National Park is spectacular as is the Northern most Rain Forest and Mount Rainier isn't shabby either...

Leavenworth WA tries to capture some old world charm and the latitude of WA compares with much of Europe...

Default Riverside, CA and Merced, CA excluded...

The great California Exodus does NOT apply to Riverside, CA and Merced, CA cities, as long as they both each have a University of California campus nearby to drive the economy, with projected growth for the next 45 years until year 2065.

Where's your home town?

Well, following that logic, one must include the cities of Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Davis, Santa Barbara, Irvine, San Diego, etc. However, as another poster pointed out, several thousand people have moved out of Los Angeles County to another state in the past year.

Housing costs matter... All of these cities have high housing costs except Riverside and Merced. Plus, only Riverside and Merced campuses can be expanded larger. Others are already built-out and full now.

Purely anecdotal but a surprise none the less...

Mom's dear friend was not reachable so I reached out to her grand daughter...

This is a very large established California family with a State Senator in the lineage...

At Mom's friend's 80th party there were 120 people and more than half relatives... they had 5 boys and two girls with several being adopted...

Grand Daughter said everyone has moved???

I said what do you mean moved?

She said in the last 3 years all of her uncles and aunts and their kids and grand kids have left California... just the oldest son and his wife remain and they are taking care of Grandma....

A real shock because they were so active with careers... medical, utilities, law, politics and engineers...

All lived in Northern CA with most in the SF Bay Area but one had a large off grid holding in Northern CA and operated PGE Hydro for a living...

I've never seen anything like it when so many established families move in mass...

The South Congress area is a great area, but did you see how terrible the schools are there? Geez. You have to send your kids to private school on top of that.

Wait a minute; I thought a main advantage of moving to TX was housing affordability. And this home would cost its owner what in property taxes?

Texas is cheap if you live in the boonies. Then again, Bakersfield and Barstow are cheap as well.

Since I’ve owned my home for years in CA, there is no reason for me to move to Texas, not that I would want to anyways. My property taxes would quadruple.
