Congratulations, you’re catching up to Visalia. I remember when In-N-Out first opened in Visalia on the corner of Mooney and Walnut. And now there’s a second In-N-Out underway in north Visalia on the corner of Dinuba Boulevard and Riggin.

Quick question

Would you guys consider Fairfield and Vacaville to be in the valley. Personally I would consider them to be cities in the valley. Including these cities I would rank them like this.

1 Sacramento (Pretty nice mid sized city with a lot of amenities)
2 Davis (Great college town in a great location however it’s on the pricy side.
3 Chico (Less desirable than Davis but still pretty nice for the most part. Butte county is home to a lot of great outdoor activities.)
4 Visalia (Best place in the San Joaquin Valley but possibly has the worst air quality in the Bay Area)
5 Fresno (Has some great areas has some not so great areas but the place is changing into a more interesting city)
6 Redding (Very pretty area with lots of outdoor activities. The town itself is somewhat decent. But it’s very isolated and gets insanely hot)
7 Bakersfield (Basically a ****tier Fresno but it’s not the worst.)
8 Modesto (Has an ok downtown. A lot of property crime but has some nice areas. Nearby Turlock is a pretty nice town)
9 Merced (Has a lot of potential to be a nice college town but still feels like a podunk valley town. Has a surprisingly high crime rate as well)
10 Fairfield and Vacaville (Long commutes to bigger cities. Bland [even by Central Valley standards] and Fairfield also has a high crime rate)
11 Stockton (Very depressing place. Has a ton of crime and horrible schools. The downtown waterfront area seems to be abandoned and empty. However the north side near the University of the pacific and the Miracle mile are nice areas. Nearby Lodi is also nice)
12 Yuba City/Marysville (Dull places with high crime rates [Marysville especially]. Long commute to Sacramento.)
13 Madera (It’s close to Yosemite. That’s the only thing positive I can say about it. Spent a good chunk of my childhood here. Crime is very high for its size and there’s few amenities.

.
Geographically, yes, Vacaville is the far west of the Sacramento Valley, Fairfield is right on the northern edge of the Sacramento River Delta.

Vacaville slightly more so than Fairfield. But they are both hybrid places, plenty of folks in these towns gravitate equally towards either the Bay Area, the Sacramento Area or both.

You could say, they are actually sort of their own thing, neither the Bay Area nor Sacramento Area as there is plenty of employment (State of Cal Jobs-Prisons/Other, Private High-Tech-Bio, Military/Travis Air Force) in their immediate area. A lot of folks in Vacaville work in Davis and Sacramento.

The Capitol Corridor "commuter" train interconnects them as well...... Roseville-Sacto-Davis-Vacaville-Fairfield/Suisun-Martinez-Richmond-Berkeley-Oakland...San Jose

That is my home town. But, I have not lived there since approx 1974. Population has increased by about 200,000 over what it was when I last lived there. I would agree regarding the area around UOP. I have a sibling living in that area. I recall reading that Stockton's "hey day" was supposedly the period from the early 1900s to around the start of WW2. When I grew up there, I recall that it seemed like a rather rough town. The "Miracle Mile" (Pacific Ave) was definitely better back then, compared to now. I recall seeing 'Dirty Harry" at that theater (that is now closed down) on the "Miracle Mile"

Some parts of Oildale is good, especially on the hilly side, and your right Arvin is a separate town away from Bakersfield.

I've heard quite a few people put down Bakersfield like it's a declining Midwest City, but Bakersfield is growing and continues to improve as time goes by,and they are also building a new freeway system along with more new housing communities, stores, restaurants, etc.

But Arvin isn’t even connected in any way to Bakersfield. You might as well as say you are marking Bakersfield down because of Taft. Or marking Fresno down because of Madera.
