So what are places like Dinsmore - Blocksberg like? They are somewhat inland rather than right on the coast- Perhaps the weather is a bit different - warmer in winter.

Has anyone lived there?

High wildfire risk. Weather's warmer and drier in the summers (read: hot). That said, so far, Humboldt County has done pretty well with dousing any wildfire that comes up, AFAIK. Neighboring counties haven't done as well. (read: smoke!)

Why do you ask? Aren't you happily ensconced in Skamokawa?

I love Skamokawa but havent built a house or anything. Those 503 acres on the Columbia are beautiful but steep. I like different properties different places. My main home is El Paso Texas where I practice law.

Petrolia looks nice - many places in Humbolt get good grades for wildfire prepearedness.

I used to live in Swain's Flat--also on Hwy 36 between Carlotta and Bridgeville, so further west than Dinsmore. A lot more snow than I was expecting, having moved from Fields Landing.

Dinsmore would put you a long way from services if you needed them. Carlotta was considered the closest "city" and it doesn't look that much bigger than it used to.

The weather in the inland locations is usually just a little bit colder than the coast in winter, sometimes a lot colder, especially at night. The direct ocean breeze keeps the coast warmer in winter. Plus, the inland areas tend to have at least a little bit of elevation to them (300 to 1500 feet). The inland areas at low elevation still get cold at night because less ocean influence means calmer and colder night air.

The flip side is they're somewhat to significantly warmer in summer. Not sure how warm the locations you listed are.
