The topic wasn't "most desirable". It was the cheapest. I'd live in Yuma vs Winterhaven just for the tax breaks.

The places least like California and more like the Midwest are the cheapest. Easiest way to put it.

I posted that article because I've been asked that question. That's it.

As for me, I am fortunately able to live in the East Bay Area. I've met a lot of people here who are at retirement age and have their kids still living with them due to the high cost of housing.

But I'll admit, the weather is nice.

Cheapest place to live in California?

Jail. Many amenities. Except it’s a potentially dangerous neighborhood with nothing fun to do.

This. Or you can buy a broken down RV and park it wherever you like. But if you are into buying a house, I think Trona is as cheap as it gets.

A more suitable California town with best weather, lowest price, and a sense of community would be Taft, CA. At least you can commute to Bakersfield to get all of your groceries and merchandises.

Not too long ago, there were many houses for sale for as low as $40,000. I guess they are now all gone.

Fresno is best cheapest place to live because its a big city, has most major amenities, college options, and close to the bay area--in fact only about 2 hours to san jose. After that comes Bakersfield. Once fresno and bakersfield become up there in price (fresno is already starting) then only cheap places left in CA will be small towns that really dont have much to offer within it's own city/area.
