They do create the problem by not letting hunters hunt the area with bows. Pretty simply solution but it seems those in charge hate hunters. They'd rather bring in expensive contractors to do the job hunters would volunteer to do.

Native Javalinas destroy gardens here, and wild pigs--descended from those brought by early Hawaiians--did the same when we lived in the Islands. I understand where those animals came from, but what is the source of the San Jose pigs?

Trapping is pretty effective, and is less likely to kill dogs and other animals mistaken for pigs.

Once a hog gets out of one of the traps they'll never catch another. They are that smart. Using bows requires the hunter to be very close, close enough you would easily tell it's a pig. Govt trappers use shotguns and hunt at night where they could actually mistake another animal for a hog.

The guy in the video "we can't just get a gun out and shoot them."

Meanwhile, here in Texas, we have a year round season on feral pigs with no bag limit and some are shooting them from helicopters for fun.

As time goes by ...I totally get why many of you are coming here. LOL

These baits look promising . https://www.fieldandstream.com/conse...it-feral-pigs/
Even in Louisiana hunters can't kill enough to maintain population control

European Wild Boar were brought to Monterey Country in the 1920s. They interbred with domesticated pigs that escaped and went feral, then spread elsewhere. Read more about it here.

I'm a hunter. These wild pigs are incredibly strong, tough, and ill tempered, especially if stressed or wounded. You really don't want the general public hunting these in city limits or areas with lots of people around. WAY too much can go wrong. Poisons have a nasty way of ending up in the food chain. Live trapping then dispatching really is the best solution.

San Diego spent one million dollars to get rid of "a lot" of the feral hogs. That was for just two guys for a few years. Open it to hunting. What a waste of tax payer money.
