I am looking for recommendations for places to live within an hour commute of Fresno. I will have two high schoolers, so looking for a place where my kids will be safe and comfortable, with a good education and friendly students. Baseball, Band, FFA and Culinary programs at the high school are positives. I have been reading a lot, and the fire threats, low air quality and chance of earthquakes are all new to me. Any advice on areas that have larger lots that allow chickens and fit the above info as well? Thank you so much!

It sounds like Eastern Madera County might be your best bet (Oakhurst and Coarsegold). There is wildfire danger living in the Sierra Nevada foothills, but I think Yosemite High School in Oakhurst would be a good option. Plus most home are on at least a couple acre lots so chickens wouldn't be an issue.

why does it have to be an hour away? why dont you just live IN Fresno. If you want the best schools with great sports programs, look at Clovis CA in fresno county. It's basically fresno without the negative stigma attached to the city's reputation and name. There are still plenty of land in east clovis where its still very rural but you can be in clovis unified schools and fresno being there for all the amenities, stores, entertainment etc.

You can also look into Friant up in the hills by table mountain casino. They too fall in the clovis unified school districts so youll be in great schools.

Clovis unified is full of highly rated schools from K-12 and not only is it highly recognized within the state but also in national rankings.
