Bakersfield and Fresno doesn't deserve their own forum? How about adding several forums like "southern desert", "southern central valley", "northern central valley", "Sierra Mountains", "Southern Coast", "Northern Coast"?

I agree, but apparently TPTB do not.

We live near Chico, population 110 K, plus - minus. Watching television the anchors always refer to the region as "and here in the Northstate". The only other large city is Redding ( north of Sacramento). I'd vote for calling the entire area in a new forum as "The North State". I can't provide the numbers, but I think we have less population than the Los Angeles Metro. That is what makes our beloved region so wonderful, among other things, obviously.

The reason the CA section focuses on population centers is, that that's where most of the C-D members live. Though there's hardly anyone left in "Monterey" anymore (which may or may not include Santa Cruz), now that MountainSurfer and his photography have moved away. It's still an area that gets relocation inquiries occasionally.

I think a North Coast forum could be justified. More people are moving there, and we have around a half-dozen members that live there, a couple of whom haven't been active for a few years. But it's an area that gets interest for both tourism and relocation.

The Sierras also get relocation inquiries, partly from retirees, partly from people looking for an affordable CA location. And we have several members living there.

Ventura, Santa Barbara and SLO counties could be rolled into one subforum.

And indeed there could be a subforum for the northern quarter of the state
(everything north of Sacramento).

Yup,the California Forum is strange that only Sacramento is listed to represent the entire Central Valley, when you have Fresno,Bakersfield,Stockton,Modesto

Well, Sacramento is seen as a desirable place to live for many, unlike the other 4 mentioned which are far more of an acquired taste.

All four of those cities make Sacramento look like San Francisco. Sac is the metropolis of the Central Valley.

I agree. There probably should be three additional California sub-forums: Central Coast, North State and San Joaquin Valley.

Less than 500k people live in the "North State" (weird, given that it's always been known as Northern California to me...) and it's devolving into a MAGA hell scape that's completely lost touch with reality. CDF already has a huge problem with right wing conspiracy theories, so that'll just give more lunatics the opportunity to create threads spreading disinformation. Very few people want to move up there anyway due to lack of jobs/isolation/extreme fire, so the general CA forum seems fine as it is to keep the riff riff out. People already post in the Monterey forum if they're looking to relocate to the central coast, and the Sacramento forum has plenty of traffic for people looking for info on the Central Valley.

Do we really need an Imperial Valley forum? A Channel Islands forum? A Lake Tahoe forum? The four main metros drive all the traffic and people can easily post in the ones I've already mentioned if they're actually interested in relocating to California.
