Hi,
My son is doing a school report, comparing life here in our small town in NJ, to life in Durham, Ca. He chose Durham because it was on the same latitude as our hometown. He needs to know about the geography, farmlands or industrial, pace of life, urban or rural, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Durham is certainly a small town too. It is in the upper part of the Sacramento Valley, about 80 miles north of Sacramento. It is a rural community surrounded by rich orchards of fruit and nut trees. Peaches, apricots, almonds, plums, kiwi are the main crops in the area. The foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains are just to the east of town, and so is Lake Oroville. The closest city is Chico, about 10 miles north.

A butcher store there has a sign that says, "The best meat you ever thaw"

A suburb of Chico, Butte Community College lies a few miles to the east. Used to have a great bar.
