What would be the 'consensus' pick for best City in Cali?

L.A, San Diego, San Fran?

In the coming months I want to move out to California to one of the above cities. Coming from the East Coast what city would be considered the "must see" ?

I'm sure a lot of people will say San Fran, but I'm still young (only 23)- and there are a lot of things in Southern Cali such as beaches, palm trees, celeberties, nightlife, etc that would be more ample in Souther Cali...

So what city do you think would be the best one to visit first?

All 3 cities you mentioned are very different from one another, considering that they're all in the same state.

My favorite is San Diego, so I say visit that one first. But its a close call, as all 3 are great to me for different reasons. I say San Diego because the beaches, the bars/nightlife, and the hip, small-town feel of the gaslamp district there in downtown San Diego. But it is very small compared to the other 2 cities. San Francisco is very much a "downtown" city, somewhat like New York, but not as large. LA is huge, and you couldn't possibly cover it all in a week. Plus, you have Orange County as well (next door to LA). If diversity is your thing, then LA you'll like.

Needles, because it might not be a "Cali" city forever.

Many in Needles say it's time to secede from California | San Bernardino County | PE.com | Southern California News | News for Inland Southern California (http://www.pe.com/localnews/sbcounty/stories/PE_News_Local_D_needles02.2cb05b6.html - broken link)

Sounds like you are describing LA, so I would recommend visiting LA first! San Diego would be first runner up. Then San Fran. This is based totally on what you seem to be looking for.

I think you have been watching to much "Access Hollywood". Chances are slim you will ever see a celebrity.

i don't think thats true at all. i don't even go out that often, but i usually have a celebrity sighting atleast once every few months. i wouldn't say these people were a-listers by any means, but they were certainly recognizble to anyone who turns on their tv atlest once a week. actually, the last celeb i ran into was the singer from the red hot chili peppers (anthony ketas sp???) on abbott kinney in venice.
