Not officially - but if bars and nightclubs in L.A. bears any coincidence to how it was when I was 16, or how bars and nightclubs in S.F. are now, than 16 year old females would have no problems getting into those spots. Back when I was 16 in L.A., 16 year old males if they looked old enough could get in (just as 16 year old males don't have any problems getting into the Haight's bars these days - I feel so old going to bars in my 'hood, it's not even funny) and I'm sure there were certain establishments where they could get in really easily in West Hollywood and Silver Lake (back then), but that wasn't my scene, just as the Castro isn't my scene. I do have a female friend in Beverly Hills who took her daughter with her to clubs and bars in L.A. when her daughter was 16, and she didn't seem to have any problems.

The Bay Area is more laid back than Los Angeles. San Diego is more laid back than the Bay Area. That balances out the equation.

No, not at all. I live in the Bay Area but do visit SoCal from time to time. If anything, I'd say SoCal is more laid back. Despite the horrible traffic down there, they don't seem to freak out about it like we do.

Saying that your vice (pot) is less bad than another's (alcohol) doesn't make yours good.

What would life be like if nobody used drugs or alcohol for 'fun'? Now there's a concept.

absolutely outside of the cities, especially north bay (sonoma/napa) and further north up the coast line... all the cities are busy.

More laid back? It is really hard to figure that out. Living in Sacramento for 20 years I can't say I can tell the difference between southern California vs northern people. Lots of egos, lots of racism all over the entire state.

The difference seems to be that the older people who complain about California going to hell on City Data boards are almost all Southern Californians and usually from LA (sometimes from the IE or OC). Even though there have been significant negative changes in both the Bay Area and LA (and in other SoCal cities), the number of complainers and whiners from the Bay Area doesn't seem that large on the C-D boards.

Why is this?
