Charles, You sure were cute!!!! What year were those pictures taken?

Another memory for Santa Barbara was going to and around State Street to shop, eat and listen to a local band at a bar.

Sambos is still there the only one left in the USA. Same place as it was many many years ago

Yep; I still love having breakfast at Sambos as well. (Although now Sambo has an Asian-Indian look to him..... a good thing!! ) The Art Walk is still happening on Sundays. Santa Claus Lane is there, but changed. The Big Yellow House is still big, and still yellow, except I liked it better when meals were all served family style at long tables. Walking along the beach there is still nice, as is lunch on the pier. They still have the best parade ever the first Friday of August; the La Fiesta Parade. I am convinced it is so great because it is on a Friday, and most work; only people who LOVE horses (like me) and the history of the parade attend!

I lived in S. Cal for 52 years and loved it, but alas, the cost of living, taxes and traffic encouraged me to move. But I still get back occasionally for a visit. Love to visit, but glad I moved!

I remember all the hippies hitch hiking along the highway before the freeway went in. Kinda where the fig tree is from what I remember.

I remember when my sister WAS a hippie! LOL! I was very young and thought her friends were pretty cool, except the one who locked me out in the dark garage

My school (Simi Valley Elementary) allowed our teacher to take the class on a field trip to Santa Barbara via Amtrak. It had to have been one of the funnest school field trips ever.

Hi from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia,
I was going through my family history book and found that my ggf's brother, Daniel Coiner, moved to Los Alamos in 1867. Should you know any Coiners/Coyners in the area you might have them contact me and I could give them some interesting info on their ancestors. Thanks. Steve(Coyner is my middle name)scjcsa@hotmail.com

Hi Steve. Hope you find some ancestral connections. I've been a genealogist/family historian for over 25 years and I love every minute of it

Orange groves. The Dutch Garden on State for great burgers and ice cold Heinekin. McConnells ice cream, La Tolteca tamales. Riding out to Mor Mesa and filling our backpacks with avocados from the abandoned grove there and coming home and making guacamole. Hiking up to the pools in Rattlesnake Canyon. Vandever's Stable on Nogal. The quail in Hope Ranch. The wind in Santa Ynez. Watching the hang gliders jump off of El Camino Cielo. Gorgeous place.
