I hear "Cali" and "Califas" from select subcultures, but the former is abused by outsiders.

I don't think anybody is "worrying" about it. Someone asked a question, we answered. Take it easy.

Excellent point there. I lived in Calif from 1978-89 then wound up here in Arizona. Did not refer to California as 'Cali' till maybe 1-2 years ago-----------much like you guys referring to Arizona residents as 'Zonies'

Remember there is actually a CalNevAri; it is a tiny community between Las Vegas amd Laughlin, Nv.---------right near where California, Nevada, and Arizona actually meet

Never in 50 years have I ever heard "Cali" except on this board by "Cali" wannabes. If you ask me, it's baby-talk, like "Noho."

"California" was once the most beautiful state with great schools, the nicest, open-minded people, great opportunities, resources, and forward thinking. That's what "California" means to me.

"Cali" sounds like someone's dog or pet hampster. If you ask me, referring to the great state of California as one calls his/her dog is reminiscent of the degradation of culture in the state. Those of us who have watched things in paradise go down the tubes are most likely not thrilled by the dumbed-down baby name.

Even Arnold can say "California."
