Pattyloving, you should post your question on the SF thread. I live in Walnut Creek and love it. If you have kids you will like it even more. Good luck to you. I just moved back to the bay from Atlanta, BTW.

I think this is the key to the primary difference between NorCal and SoCal. Narcissism is rampant in both areas but only in SoCal is it seen as a personal virtue.

RE: The faux superiority airs put on by some (but thankfully not all) Nor Cals.

Some here in Nor Cal are in denial that there is smog here. Some euphemistically call it "haze" others simply deny it exists. Even TV weather people engage in this.

Disclosure: Nor Cal native, who lived in the Southland during the 1980s and liked it!

That Bay Area smog is blown right into the San Joaquin valley making Fresno & Bakersfield one of the worse areas for smog in California

I'll take SoCal for the music - - although it would be nice to have Creedence on that side.

Northern California and Southern California are both GREAT in their own ways. They could easily be self-sustainable if they split off on their own, but one of the best things about living here is that MOST people recognize what a gold mine California is. Of course the state has it's problems, but name me a state that doesn't and I'll climb off the soapbox, haha. IMHO, us native and transplant Californians have something really special here. There are some who don't like it and that's fine. You're welcome to leave, or even stay and complain. I encourage anyone who thinks they want to try to "make" it in California to come and give it your best effort. Most of us (me included) will welcome you with open arms. I've been all around the country and spent a lot of time in the South and Midwest, and some time on the East Coast, but California is where I'll hang my hat FOREVER. Giuseppe Verdi said "You may have the universe if I may have Italy". Well, I love Italy (I am Italian), and he can have it all if I can have California. Bottom line: North or South, we still live in the best state in the union.
