We are relocating to the Stockton area. The crime reports and school ratings concern me! We have small children and are looking for real estate in a safe area with a decent elementary school. Feeling overwhelmed! Suggestions?

I think the best elementary schools in the immediate area are in southeast Tracy, but the high schools have some real problems. Stockton is sort of a good news-bad news proposition, it's inexpensive by CA standards but the schools are a model for urban decay. Livermore and Pleasanton are much better but also much more expensive, and the commute is on the long side.

Try Valley Springs or Linden up Highway 26

Scared...try going East up hwy 4 to Copper and beyond. Easy drive in to Stockton from Calaveras county and a whole world of difference in lifestyle. We are East of Angels Camp and often drive down to stockton for biz and pleasure and it never seems bad. And I wouldn't raise my family in the hustle and bustle of said city you mentioned. Got to ask yourself just how rural you want to go and what population densities you feel comfortable with. Good Luck, and we couldn't be happier with our move years ago.
