I am looking for online resources for off the grid homes for sale or additional off the grid resources. I do not think I want to do that, but I am really interested in continuing to rent here in the city and buying an off the grid place in northern California as a place to get away from it all. I just can't find jack online...driving me nuts today! (well, Prop 8 is driving me nuts but I don't want to talk about that anymore!)

You just need to contact a realtor in the county you wish for. We were shown many properties off the grid.

Agree with ferretkona. We've got properties off the grid but I'm not aware of any single source for the information. Perhaps there is a niche for what your looking for. Internet startup time !!!!

I got a few private responses. In case anyone else was interest: SurvivalRealty.com

Though that is a little more hard core than what I was thinking of.

homepower.com? There used to be quite a few excellent guerrilla solar sites but they seem to have all gone offline in the last 5-10 years.

Hard core isn't quite the right word. "For the rich" is more like it. Living simply and off the grid should not cost half a million dollars. Scams.

Well, I like looking at craigslist. For sale by owner section. Some really interesting offers and lots of great pics. Anyway...I live in the gold country foothills of northern ca. There are many small towns in the foothills. Try Jackson and surrounding area.

Default Here's a great story about off-grid construction

Check out this week by week story on City-Data.com about a couple building their own Off Grid Home.

Anyone looking for off grid property in Oak Run,Ca.? I know of a one acre 1400sq ft home almost ready to sell. In the process of getting remodeled. Septic and well is permitted but the house is not. Great home or vacation home.
