California's real problem is spending not low taxes...
California will get less from me by raising Registration because I will let my Pickup go Non-Op... which also means saving on insurance and smog checks.

No way around it... it's human nature for behavior to change in response to changes in Taxes and/or Fees.

The big problem with government spending is that any decrease in the rate of increase is called a cut. If some union or department expects 7% more money next year and the state reduces that to 5%, they scream "YOU CUT OUR BUDGET!" If the state had only slowed down the rate of increase a few years ago, we'd be in good shape and no one would have lost their job. But instead they pushed things to the breaking point where we can't borrow, and really cutting the budget or raising taxes would be a disaster. Good job, California.

If we don't raise taxes, how else will we educate and give free health care to all the you-know-whos? BTW, if you complain you're an intolerant xenophobe!

California's problems are far greater than any issues caused by illegal immigration. Texas has similar problems, yet their state is still doing pretty good.

Dallas schools just had a major layoff (around 375 teachers) this year (October) in an attempt to avoid a projected $84 million budget deficit. A lot of states are hurting and will continue to hurt in this financial environment. Let's keep it real.

Change, change, change...loved the slogan the last year on a national level. As for us Californians, did you honestly think that the sheep in wolves clothing would actually "change" anything at the state level. Government keeps spending like drunken sailors (sorry, didn't mean the insult to armed services) and keeps coming back at us tax payers to buy the next round. Change...that's about all that is left of those dollar bills I used to have in my pocket!

The result of a one party system (Democrat) coming home to roost. And this is just the beginning. Wait until CA unemployment goes way up and tax revenues really start to fall. And Californians just voted for a multi-bullion dollar rail system? Truly the people get the government that they deserve.

A tripling of my car registration would be a shock to my bank account!
The education would be better and have more funding though if they would stop taking money from the schools and putting it toward other things. Raising taxes isn't going to improve education- but it might force people who value education to leave the state. A step in the wrong direction for sure.

No it doesn't. It needs to cut spending.

Too often raising taxes actually reduces revenue to the state. Raising taxes can cause people to spend less or move out of state, which can reduce taxes collected. We wont know the effect of raising car taxes until it happens.

Cut spending. A good start would be to hold CA politicians more accountable with respect to their FREE GAS ALLOWANCE!
