I'm seeing demands for shuttering the plant, but no alternatives.

"San Clemente Green." Their asses certainly won't broil during blackouts that shut down air conditioners. I lived in that area for over four decades. Nobody had or needed A/C for 98% of the year.

"[My] article"? Don? ... How / why is it [My] article? I saw an article in the NY Times ... I read it and posted it under the assumption that others in California would be interested. I didn't post an opinion, now did I? How is it "full of crap?" And why are you angry with me? I am so hurt now. Did I miss a conspiracy obligation?

Anyway. I don't like nuclear anything. But, as Fontucky wrote: I don't see any alternatives proposed. Maybe those wind farms will pick up the slack? Heh. 1.2 million homes? That's a lot 'o windmills!

I hope it is reopened as it is safe and it is the largest power plant in Southern California so the region needs the power.

Welcome to the era of fighting over the scraps in California. More people with less infrastructure to support them all thanks to the environmentalists, fearmongers, and nimbys.

Right. The thought of clean air to breathe and clean water and safeguarding the natural resources is frightening isn't it? Oh wait ... that would be the conservatives fear-mongering.

Well, one can only hope the environmentalists drive out enough people to restore the state to sanity. But nah, not likely.

Why yes, fire up plants burning fossil fuels to fill the gap - and release greenhouse gasses in the process. Very environmentally friendly. We can't power the state/country on wind and solar (hydro power is a no-no too, got save those salmon).

I just hate to see knee-jerk rash demands with no thought to viable alternatives (that aren't without their own drawbacks).

I have for years proposed the only sane alternative: stop using so much energy to begin with. A huge percentage of use is entirely waste. Huge. So that's not going to happen either. And humanity will continue its march forward to nowhere, wallowing in its own messes. And toying with both toxic pollution and unstable nuclear processes that carry the potential to wipe out enormous areas from further use for a thousand years at a crack while poisoning generations.

None of it is good -- except self-control ... which, clearly, ain't acceptable.

If you post an article with no stated opinion then its assumed you support the article.
