I haven't been in CA all that long and am also interested in this thread as I love to fish. It would be helpful to include typical fish caught at these lakes. Or am to assume trout, bass, maybe catfish are the norm out here in the lakes? I've hiked a bit around Lopez Lake and Lake Cachuma and have wondered what type of fish inhabit those lakes.

I've caught trout in both of them.

You can find updates on lakes at newspaper sites like this one covering Pine Flat, Millerton, Lake Isabella, Buena Vista, New Melones, San Luis, etc.
fresnobee.com - Fishing Reports

Looks like New Melones is hot for trout right now.
