The Congressional Stimulus bill includes $ billions for California just in time to avoid a crisis. Schwarzenegger expressed appreciation for Pelosi' involvement in allocating necessary funds to maintain basic services. What a shame that the state legislature is crippled & unable to cope with the difficult decisions of governing

GREAT! So now the CA legislature will continue to do nothing to fix the serious fundamental flaws with this state and we will be in the hole once again as soon as that money runs out. This will do NOTHING in the long run but give our idiotic legislature more money to waste. This is NOT the way to fix our problems and just makes them worse by prolonging it. It's like a crack addict about to break their addiction then someone gives them another hit to keep going. Honestly I fairly disappointed with Obama with this bill. I'm glad CA will have more power with this administration and hopefully get its fair share but bailing us out will just let these idiots in Sac think they are actually doing their job and they will just continue to sit on their butts. I can't wait till districts are redrawn in this state and its easier to vote out the morons that apparently "run" our state.

It's not his job but he should have given a swift spanking to the legislature. The situation is pathetic. I would hope no incumbent gets reelected. I've always said we need a binding "None of the Above" so we can get these entrenched unopposed politicians out of office.

I agree that the state legislature is totally inept & just fight among themselves. Governor Schwarzenegger hasn't been much better & everybody seem to hate each other & blame each other. This seems to be getting worse each year.

But considering that our nation is in the toilet fiscally I guess it is understandable that California would also be suffering from a diminished tax base. The recession\ depression is now a world-wide emergency

Of course I am very happy, though I do hope that Obama urges the legislators to get off their rear ends and fix the state's problems.

Great... Fixing a debt problem with more debt, only now every U.S. citizen is paying for it. Not just Californian's. These bailouts are ridiculous. But at least my great grandchildren can feel good knowing they will have a part in the bailouts were handing out today.

If you want to talk about national politics, go to the political forum. This has nothing to do with California.

I'll re-open this thread - but keep it on-topic: specific to California. if you want to debate replican vs democrat... liberal vs. conservative, or talk about socialism, take it to the political forum.

There was a thread in the San Diego forum not too long ago about how this stimulus spending would help San Diego's economy by funding infastructure. Heaven knows California can use some money for it's roads. National surveys show that CA has some of the worst roads in the country. And while California's population has increased several fold in recent decades the number of miles of roads available for drivers has fallen far behind. The result is some of the worst travel conditions in the country.

So I am surprised and disappointed to see that in a $900 billion stimulus spending only 10% goes to infastructure. The rest looks like pork to me. Poor California drivers - no relief for them. Not that I'm in favor of federal spending in any case.

I really hope a big chunk of the $ goes to light rail in LA. There are several more routes that just need funding to begin construction [esp the subway to Santa Monica
