I say go for it! It is not just California that is under tough times, it's everywhere across the country. Certainly a move to Cali would be better than a move to Detroit! The national Unemployment Rate is currently 7.2 (and getting worse), so no matter where you want to find a job, it's going to be tough! And right now from what I understand the job market in Florida is just as bad if not worse than most places in the country. Make sure you look at the right job sectors too. IT jobs are disappearing left and right, but healthcare is rapidly on the rise and will be for while. Your only young once, and you'll always wonder if you should have done it. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
