We're transferring to Lemoore NAS and I was hoping for some info about the base. We haven't lived in housing in over 8 yrs, and we're considering it now. I know it's hot there and was concerned about utility rates. If anyone out there could give pros/cons on living on base vs renting in town. Any info on the area would be much appreciated. Looking forward to coming home to CA!

You're transferring to Lemoore?? Where are you moving from? Good luck.
Anyway, yes, it gets hot here in the summer - triple digits. I use a budget amount for my electricity so I can pay anywhere from $110 to $150 a month depending on how high or low you turn your conditioner on.
As far as buying vs. renting here - it depends upon how long you are staying here. If you're going to buy, they built new homes in the Davante Villas. Those are very nice. If you're going to rent, I suggest College Park Apartments. They are modern units.

Driving from Lemoore to the base isn't bad. There is a freeway between the two. About 8 miles.

Lemoore is really nice. We were stationed there for 3 years. 2002-2005. Lived in Base housing and it was wonderful.

Pinky,
There's not too much to do in Lemoore. It is a small California agriculture town. You'll see some men walking around in cowboy boots and hats. Downtown Lemoore is very, very small. It consists of basically two blocks. Not much to buy in downtown. You'll find yourself driving to Hanford mall or the plaza a lot which is about a 10 min. drive (nice short drive). The better mall (much better) to go to is Fashion Fair Mall which is located in Fresno. It's about a 40 min. drive from Lemoore. THAT mall will have EVERYTHING you'll want - which is nice. Other than that, if you love Mexican food - you'll be in luck. If you hate that type of cuisine - then good luck. Fresno has ALOT of different (chain) restaurants to choose from. However, I am used to family-owned restaurants (I'm from the East of the nation) who know how to truly cook - there are a lot of chain restaurants in Fresno which lack that special taste - IMO.
If you're looking for something to do in Lemoore - good luck. As I have said before, there's not much to do in this small town. If you're good at making friends - do that and hopefully you'll be hanging out at their houses. This is not a friendly town - people will not approach you. You have to approach them..and keep approaching them. People basically keep to themselves around here.
As for the weather, it's awesome - except for the Summer which I have said before, gets into the triple digits. But the winters are mild here. No snow.
When you do move here, take advantage of the area and travel to Yosemite, Sequoia National Park, Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, Santa Barbara, and Solvang (beautiful winter festival in December-I hear). You will truly have access to the mountains, as well as the ocean - which I love.
Good luck!
