What city in California should I consider moving to?

Search for info about San Francisco, LA, and San Diego. Those are the big population centers for CA and will be where the combination of jobs, clubs, and all that other stuff you wish for is. Then take at least 2 weeks and visit CA. There are many beautiful areas with great weather, but only you can determine which is best for you(maybe). A lot can happen in a couple years. Good luck.

I lived in San Diego, and also central California and worked in LA for a while. To me, All of California is different depending on which area you go to. I am from Michigan also. You will meet totally different people there. I liked San Diego because I thought it was spread out, clean, and I always felt safe where I lived. I moved away from CA and travelled to some other parts of the US, but I do miss CA and may move back there myself.

Twinkle, that seems like CA to me, except I don't think you could rent a garage for $700/month in Los Angeles. I mean even an unconverted garage.

No. I just found BPurks post to be extremely exaggerated. Here's a copy and paste. I'll highlight what's wrong with this post.


All of California is dry except by the ocean. Everything in California that is a living plant was probably planted there as most living things dont just sprout up in California. We have lots of fires throughout California so there is no one area that has everything you are looking for. I live in Northern California. Its woodsy and it snows. It barely rains but does on occasion. It doesnt look like the east coast though because everything is dead here. Its called the "high desert" for a reason. Most of the inland parts of California are desert-like. I grew up on the beaches of the central coast of California. Its pretty there and the weather never hits 100 but the housing there is outrageous, as is most of California. Rentals for one bedrooms go for upwards of $700 there. My husband is from Port Huron and he says there is no comparison between Ca and Mi. From what you describe, you should check out Portland or Seattle area. Ive lived in both as well and they have more of the east coast feel that you seem to be looking for and the jobs are plentiful there as well. Los Angeles is overcrowded and the air is smoggy. Last time I checked, we had plants, flora and fauna that are indiginous to California. Everything is not dead here or planted by humans, nor is the entire state dry. I just wonder what planet this person is on ... or maybe it's the crackpipe he/she needs to stop hitting.

Well it is dry here, although the quote does seem to exaggerate that. And Los Angeles is a desert area, although you are correct that this does not represent the entire state.

Actually the person you quoted would probably be not well suited for California. Myself, I'm just fine with California scenery, from the beaches to the mountains to the desert. We have plenty of natural beauty here, and anybody who does not recognize that should locate somewhere else.

Go visit for a few weeks & drive through the state, maybe then you'll discover which area you like?
