Expected to cost well over $200M, this ridiculous project is wrong on so many levels:

1. It infringes on the right of people who choose to end their life over their favorite bridge.

2. It wastes money taxpayers' money.

3. It does nothing. Determined people will find other ways.

Aah but the contractor or supplier probably had some friends in the legislature who need campaign contributions.

Quite so.

My view of freedom includes the right to terminate your own life if you wish.

I hope everybody who is contemplating suicide will at least seek psychotherapy or at minimum call the suicide hot line, but if you can't wait... go for it!

We have too many people anyway. Let the ones who want to leave, leave.

Here's what I don't get, what's going to stop the jumpers from jumping off of the suicide net? Answer: nothing. It becomes a 2 stage process instead of one, jump to the net, then jump to your death. Another Huge waste of money by liberal do-gooders.

Here's what I don't understand: how can you prevent people from killing themselves in suicide?

Gun ownership is legal in California. Just buy a gun, wait 3 days (?, AFAIK the wating period), then pick up your gon and a box of 20 rounds. Don't worry, you won't need 19 of them, and you have 19 more chances if you can't stick a gun in your mouth and point it upwards and pull the trigger. (This is the traditional method in police suicides: eat your gun = stick it in your mouth and point it towards your brain and pull the trigger.) It is 100% effective.

I don't understand why society or the populace should intervene in the affairs of somebody who just wants to terminate their life?

This should be on America's Bill of Rights right along with the freedom of the presses, the freedom of free speech, the freedom of the presses (news media) and the freedom of privacy, and to bear arms.

I don't get it, why killing yourself via suicide should be a crime. It should be a right!

Not. Lame topic.

Better solution: Offer suicide counseling, a 72 hour limit, and if they can't convince you to not kill yourself in 72 hours give you the same cocktail they use to euthanize our pet dogs and cats.

We got so many problems that we need to prevent people from reducing our population?

Yes, the California forum really needs a moderator to step in and take control of the anti-California BS.
