If I earned income in Fl and PA and am now a student and officially a resident in CA starting in Sept 08, do I pay taxes in CA for the income earned in PA and FL?

If you have no California wages then you owe no California income tax. You will need to file PA and FL income tax returns for the respective wages of each.

Talking CA income taxes- one more thing to ask

I forgot to mention that I did earn money in CA when I moved there and started going to school in Sept. 08,.

So can I just file my CA income tax return but subtract out the FL and PA income that is listed all on my federal income tax return? (The CA tax instructions say to list the income on my federal tax return -which has my PA and FL income along with my CA income as my gross income for '08).

No you can not subtract other state income and add it to CA. You will have to file separate state returns for each state you worked in. On the federal form which should not be confused with the state forms you should list income from all the states employed.

You need to use Form 540NR instead of Form 540.
