Hey sav858, if you don't mind answering please tell me your occupation. I'm an electronic engineer.

I'm sorry if the topic became rather contentious. I thought it was a good debate, and may even continue to be a good debate.
I'm a retired Chief Information Officer....now I teach at UCR part time.--by the way, I worked for both private enterprise and spent a lot of years working for government.

I'm a transportation planner and registered independent. I work in the private sector but did work for a public agency for a year.

I don't always agree with you, sav858 - you are being practical\ reasonable & why voters should support these initiatives.

Thanks for the answer sav858. My entire career was in the private sector, in medical electronics since about '91.

It's plain to see that I think taxes are too high. You and I evidently disagree on the best way to accomplish decreased taxes. Honestly I don't know who is right. I'm just doing the best I can and I'm sure you are too.

Voters should support the future of the State of California and say
  • NO to additional years of increased taxes.
  • NO to using lottery money as a basis for borrowing.
  • NO to the lies the legislature is telling us.
VOTE NO on all the propositions

haha, yes I am very aware of that, I can get turned off by your partisan rhetoric sometimes but do agree with some of your arguments and positions other times. I can understand why voters will vote no but I think many are just pissed and are voting based off emotions and anger rather than taking a look at the fundamental problems that plague this state every year. It is kind of BS that to get a spending cap and rainy day fund we have to extend the recent tax increase but its better than doing nothing and maintaining the status quo to just end up where we are right now and were before IMHO.

Taxes are too high in CA but I think that is also a result of how screwed up and volatile our revenue stream and budgeting process are rather than just inefficient govt and wasteful spending. If we are going to cap property taxes, the most stable form of tax revenue, at such low rates and try to make up the difference with income and sales tax then there needs to be a way to mitigate for the yearly variability in those two revenue streams.

I'm just really hoping though the passage of Prop 11 will bring more sensible and less partisan lawmakers to Sacramento and that people won't keep voting in the same idiots. I really can't stand most politicians out there b/c they just seem to far left or right to me, either tax way too much or too little.

The implementation of prop 11 can't come fast enough & is a major victory for the voters of California. But in statewide elections [regardless of districts] the majority pass many expensive programs. Will that change?

Not only can I NOT stand them, I do NOT believe them. If they propose something/anything it is for their own self interest, not for the betterment of our state.

VOTE NO!

I say just straight line cut it.

Cut 16$ billion from education (k-12 to higher education)
Cut 10$ billion from health and human services
Cut 4$ billion from criminal justice (police, jails etc)
Cut 10$ billion from all the rest of the programs.

Wishful thinking: that will never happen in pro-union California.
