Why do you want to move to California?
What line of work are you in?
How many hours of research on Sacramento have you performed?
Are you going to rent or buy?
What is your housing budget?

I will ask the same questions as Charles just asked...Add to those, yes Sacramento is a pretty decent place but I do not know about the job market. Remember the unemployment rate is Ca is one of the highest in the country..Make sure before you make that move you have several thousand $$s to fall back on while you getting a job.

You mention a place to raise kids, are you a daddy and what does your wife/segnifcant other do for a living or will she be a stay at home mom?

I'm not overly familiar with Sac. I've heard that Citrus Heights is a nice area. Also Davis. I've been told that Davis is a nice city.

Davis is a great city in which to raise a family. Probably one of the top 5-10 in terms of good schools and families. Like a previous poster alluded to, if getting a job is your top priority, California is not the place to be. However, if/when we turn around, Sacramento should be in decent shape. What line of work are you in if I may ask?

Default Sacramento

Addy,

Please know that I was born in California and have lived here all my life and Sacramento, specifically Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks area, is the worst place I have ever lived. There were drugs and helicopters and a car crashed into my house over Christmas vacation (luckily we were gone). Where do you come from? That makes a lot of difference in what type of an area you enjoy. I bought there thinking it was beautiful, but really not doing enough research to learn about the druggy areas, etc. Believe me they are not fun areas to live in. My son lived in Elk Grove for a little under a year until he was laid off from PetSmart and he enjoyed it there. I hope this helps, but it might be smarter to come to California and rent and see if you like it before taking such a huge step as buying a home in a place you aren't sure you will enjoy. Believe me, I know, I did it. Good luck in your job search. I have heard all about the unemployment problem, but if you're competent and have any skills and like to help solve problems, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to find a job. I found one in one day last week and will be starting April 3rd. Also, if you aren't Christian (Jewish, Islamic, Celtic, Buddhist, etc.) Sacramento will seem very much like a "good old boy" town. If you are a true Christian, and love and accept all people, you won't have a problem wherever you go, but none of us are perfect!!
