EscapeCalifornia has a point, in many areas you're only going to find WOOD framed apartments which have laughably inadequate soundproofing. Your place is an exception and from the sound of it is probably a converted warehouse. There are a few high-rises around, but not nearly enough for everyone to live in.

And around here, the few highrises are mega expensive. I could rent a house for what those go for. Even the $2000+/mo Irvine Company apartments are mostly 2-3 story wood framed.
