Im really surprised there are not more posts related to the country north of the Sac lattitudinal line. I live in Humboldt County, home to HSU and wonderful diversity, great local meat and produce, friendly peeps. Just thought Id start a forum for our "remote, but not so isolated" area. If you ever travel and explore our area, you will find something for everyone!!

I don't really know why there aren't more posts about North of Sacramento and Humboldt County. I personally love the area, I've always had a great time up there. I think Humboldt County might be overshadowed by some of the bigger, more "exciting" (perceived) areas of California. It's a great place that I would recommend for a variety of reasons. Great thread idea!

From Bodega Bay north to Crescent City along the coast is some of the most beautiful scenery in California with lovely towns and plenty to do outdoors.

I believe there are many of us that live north of that sac line would love to be in our own state. The state of Northern California.

Default Three states

In a recent topic we considered the idea of splitting California into three states. Not a bad idea since the regions are quite different.Do like NorCal and Humboldt County, with some exceptions.Would avoid Eureka with its high crime rate, and Arcata, loaded with Bolsheviks from the university.Fortuna,or if I could afford it,Ferndale, would be my choices on the North coast.

And I thought that California ended at Santa Barbara.

There aren't more posts because there's not that many people up there. Also, most people from out of state move where they can get jobs and that means the big cities of the Bay Area, SoCal, or to some extent the Central Valley.

Everything north of Santa Barbara is some vague, amorphous region known as "up north".

I have plenty of posts on this forum and I am from Humboldt County. I think that Northern Californians like to be isolated and left alone for the most part. There are quite a few Humboldters on here. Just find and read any thread that mentions our area.

In some ways, the "North Coast" [Del Norte\ Humboldt\ Mendocino counties] is quite remote due to a variety of factors including commerce\ park lands\ access & why many people prefer to live there. But far northern California inland regions are even more remote [Trinity\ Siskiyou\ Modoc\ Lassen counties]. It's been a long time since I last visited these areas but am happy that they exist in an extremely overcrowded state.

Once one drives into Sonoma county [101] or Shasta county [5] the spread of urban versus rural begins to shift toward higher population centers.

My great-grandmother was born in Sawyers Bar [closest town is Weed 80 miles away] in 1890. That area hasn't changed much if any in over 100 yrs. Its nice to know that these areas still exist in California.
