Someone I know can hook me up with a job in Big Sur California. I checked it out on wikipedia. Can anyone tell me how a 24 straight single male would like the area, is there alot to do, etc?

There aren't many people in Big Sur. If you want town or city life, you have to live on the Monterey Peninsula. Lots of great hiking in the area, if that's what you like to do.

You couldn't pick a more beautiful part of California but after the devastating fires of last summer & the poor economy, many businesses have closed Check the Monterey Herald newspaper for employment or, better yet, spend a few days in Big Sur looking for work.

Well Joe,

Where are you coming from and what do you like to do? Big Sur is right in my backyard and I love it! I take my family hiking there all the time. You can surf, sea kayak, fish, hike, mtn bike, etc...

And Monterey, where we live, is only 30 miles away. There are many colleges and young ppl in the Monterey area. Then another hour north is Santa Cruz with a lot more young ppl as well. You will probably meet more ppl on the Monterey Penninsula as Snort said. Big Sur itself is a very small tourist based town amoung the coastal Redwoods. It has a post office and a few coffee houses, hotels, campgrounds, ranger station and not a whole lot more. So if you don't mind small town living it is fine. Or you could live on the Monterey Peninsula and commute (~45 miutes-1 hr).

Derek

if you wanted any night life you would have to travel to montery and that would be a bit of drive. it is a beautiful mountian area, this I copied from wikipedia..... There are no urban areas, although three small clusters of gas stations, restaurants, and motels are often marked on maps as "towns"

Nepenthe has night life & there are bars attached to some great restaurant like Ventana [pricey]. The locals are hippie types\ environmentalists\ eccentrics\ monks. I've spent many very happy weekends in Big Sur w/ friends by just camping in the canyon or Bixby Creek. Big Sur is magic

I do like the outdoors. I'll have to check it out. The beach looks too beautiful to miss.

That whole stretch of coast from Monterey to Morro Bay is beautiful.

wow! what kind of job? at a resort? i would kill to live in big sur. i am 23 and female and loved it when i passed through it. if you like nature you will love it, even if you dont love nature you will be transformed!
they are right that there is not that many people and there are huge blocks of road with absolutely no sign of civilization, but if youre working in a hotel or restaurant you will meet plenty of tourists.
can you take me with you??
