That wouldn't be very good for tourism if they impounded every car driven by someone with an out of state license.

Long story short, sounds like the wife usually drives it and she lives in CA. Car is registered in Missouri, but the wife living in Ca has not complied to the law and registered it in CA. This is a common story of immigrants to CA that figure they can beat the system and save a buck.
It should have been a simple ticket, but the untold story aggravated the police.
I am betting the wife had already been cited and ignored the ticket.

I don't understand what your wife has to do with it unless she was driving the car at the time the police did the traffic stop.

I don't think most people realize that cops type in the licence plates of all cars they drive by or see. It is on the record of what cars are on the road at the same time each day, kind of what residents do each day.

If you're a mo resident & are only in ca on weekends i dont see why the cops impounded your car. Sounds like a ******* cop. I drove a car in ca for 3 yrs with out of state plates & never had a problem. I also drove a car for 1 yr with expired tags & never got stopped once & then i sold it to the junk yard cause i blew a headgasket at 175k miles. The state, cities & counties of ca are desperate for revenue. We all gotta watch our backs & be on the up & up. Dont give the cops a reason to stop you, ticket you, harass you or take your car.

This happened to a buddy of mine a few weeks ago in PA. He had a PA license, but still had his CA tags. It's a sucky situation, but it's not that uncommon.

This sounds suspicious to me too...We were in Simi Valley, Oxnard area in December and even had a slight domestic disturbance in our rental place (stupid couple of people I work with can't handle alcohol) and we had Colorado plates and they didn't give us too much trouble.

In addition, we were doing out of state sales, and got pulled over probably four times for security and solicitation reasons, but they never towed us and left us standing, just told us to leave the neighborhood, although we were exempt by law. But that happens in CO too. Most of our drivers look like thugs, and we all had out of state licenses...Sounds like you were a big time victim, or something's just not right, as was previously stated...Simi Valley is a really clean, nice area too...

I dont know if this is still the law or not, but when I moved here the law clearly stated that if you move to calif, then the day your car enters the state it needs to be registered in calif. Some states have a grace period of up to 6 mos. Calif has zero grace period.

Car is registered on my name with California registration, and my wife uses it. Since she lives here. I use it only on weekends when I am here in California.

Cops did not stop me for citation, but it was all the vehicle passes that specific road. Basically, they were searching for vehicle driven without licensed or not registered vehicle.

Officer asked me for my license when I reached him. I gave him my MO license then he asked me where do you live. I told him the California address where I was staying then asked me to pull over to the side and send me to another officer. Where I asked him why I was pulled, he said you are driving with other state license, and it is like "driving without license" that was his word. I told him I am a visitor he refused to listen to me further and asked me and my son to get off the car and hit the road.

silly boy you should've realized it's not okay to drive without a CA license... it's only okay to drive unlicensed if you're an illegal immigrant and as long as you're uninsured too...
