I see plenty of whining about higher taxes, and particularly the increased auto registration costs. What I don't understand is why these people continue to vote for the same people who are increasing the taxes. I wonder why that is.

you know lovehound I am so guilty of this. I have voted down anything that cost money, but I have continued to vote for my same congressman. Just recently I have decided that no matter how much I might agree with him I am not voting for an incumbant. See you can teach an old dog new tricks

As for selling a house and moving because of disagreement with state government, which Sassberto declared to be ridiculous, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that what led the first colonists to what is now America in the first place and then precipitated the Revolutionary War?

Oh bother! I didn't say I've deplored it for 60+ years. The reality is that I've had 60+ years in which to watch and absorb what has happened to my state and I find where it is now to be deplorable compared to what went before.

Considering that I'm in my 60s and have lived here continuously for the past 38 years, it's doubtful that I'll be around long enough for any other state to disappoint me as much.

What you wrote may be how what I wrote comes across to you but I think that says more about you than it does about me.

But maybe just maybe the government thing makes it a little easier? I believe I posted before that I wouldn't leave just because of state government and taxes, but it was on the list. So what's your reason for wanting to leave? If I'm not getting personal.

Sassberto is calling it "moving because of disagreement with state government." I think that's a bit misleading and even dismissive. It is more accurate to say "moving because of increasing cost of living and the likelihood that cost of living will even accelerate even further as a result of state governmental policy."

And just to repeat myself, increasing cost of living is just one of the many reasons why I favor moving out of state.

Actually, I did think of the parallel with the colonization and ultimate attainment of independence in our history. Some of the same reasons caused settlers to move to the Mid-West and then to the West. I believe I even mentioned that earlier in this topic. I think that "the West" is more a state of mind than anything else, the idea that it's better to move on rather than putting up with what you consider deplorable conditions. The direction doesn't have to be west though. Maybe the new West is east, or north, or ... ?

Maybe everybody who feels like leaving has a multiplicity of reasons. Have you read a single post by somebody who gave "disagreement with state government" as their sole reason for wanting to leave?
