One thing interesting is that while Santa Ana is majority democrat, and have a all democrat city council makeup the council seems to lean more libertarian than most Democrat city councils around the state particularly within LA and the Bay Area. They actually believe in less local government meddling. i.e they tabled proposals to limit food trucks and safe and sane fireworks in the city many times. Santa Ana may be Democrat but they keep the Orange County libertarian culture.

I personally don't care about democrat or republican though I believe a city government exists to serve their local population not to micromanage people often against their will to make their cities look nice to certain lobbyists.
Unfortunately the state keeps chipping away at such "local control" everyday.

The Dems of North OC tend to be more moderate, so I'm not surprised Santa Ana's city government is less nannyish than in LA and the Bay Area.

Not just OC but also in LA county as well most cities outside of the coastal ones around LA seems less meddling. Inglewood is another city that is mostly populated by Democrat voters and have an all Democrat council makeup but does not believe their city must make a point by embracing various progressive agendas or constantly propose new restrictions on residents. We hardly hear Inglewood passing new regulations or bans or anything. And they allow the sale of any fireworks that are legal under federal and state regulations. Artesia and Paramount CA are similar.

I really don't like cities which believe they must make a point by embracing new ordinances against their residents will to make a point that they have a green city or some sort of make believe utopia. Progressive agenda 21 folks use city governments as pawns to their one world government schemes when state or national governments are reluctant to embrace their idealism. And sadly more and more cities fall for it. Recently states that are more red are considering restricting local powers to prevent them from jumping onboard. Of course these causes uproar in these groups. Of course local control is only good for those who support what is being regulated or not.

Not true at all.
Calabasas, Pasadena, South Pasadena, and La Canada-Flintridge are all farther away from the coast than Inglewood is and all of them have nanny laws. They prohibit fireworks, have strict smoking bans, ban gun stores, etc.
It's not so much of a coastal thing as it is a white people thing in L.A. County. (And yes I know Pasadena's not white majority anymore but it is still white plurality).

I am not really saying that other cities don't have such issues.
Of course there are other cities that are left leaning or have nanny laws even inland or in Orange County. Some cities ban parking at 2 am to 6am except with a guest permit. Though not every city would follow suit.
Pasadena and South Pasadena also followed Los Angeles and Santa Monica's example in forcing shoppers at supermarkets to pay for bags back in 2013. Something that the most of rest of San Gabriel Valley cities won't even think about. Though Coachella Valley where Palm springs is a left leaning oasis in the desert with all the policies in their ordinance books that are usually only found on the elitist coastside cities.

I.e. cities that are majority white or cities that may not be white majority but which have sizable affluent white populations.

Not necessarily. Cities in the Bay Area are generally pretty diverse in population but they strongly embrace nanny state rules. So is LA, santa Santa Barbara, and SD. And some OC cities.

While cities in the interior of the state while they may be mostly homogenous they seem to avoid meddling.
